An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 47 3/4" x 63" [121 x 160 cm]) (Learn More) Les Enfants du Paradis (released in the U.S. in 1947 as "Children of Paradise") the classic 1945 Marcel Carne French epic theater performing arts romantic love triangle comedy melodrama (covering many years in the lives of many people, including an actress and a famous mime, and their many interlocking relationships; this is rightly considered in the handful of greatest French movies ever made!) starring Arletty, Jean-Louis Barrault, Pierre Brasseur, Pierre Renoir, and Maria Casares. Note that this movie was made immediately after France was liberated from the Nazis in late 1944, and it premiered in Paris in March of 1945, which makes it all the more remarkable! It did not go into general release in France for an entire year after, in March of 1946. It was then slowly released all over Europe, and it opened in America in November of 1946 and in New York City in February of 1947! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this French one-panel, which is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie! Also note that due to the great length of the movie (over 3 hours!), it only showed as a single movie when it opened, but was then quickly split into two parts. Part I was called Boulevard of Crime (Boulevard du Crime) and Part II was called The Man in White (L'Homme Blanc). This poster is for Part II, The Man in White. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had small paper loss at some crossfolds and some creases, tears, and tiny paper loss on parts of some folds. It also had darkening on the folds and in the outer edges of the blank borders.
