Howard crime mystery thriller ("Based on play 'Sherlock Holmes' by William Gillette with permission of the executors of the late Sir Arthur Conan Doyle") starring Clive Brook (as Sherlock Holmes), Miriam Jordan, Ernest Torrence, Herbert Mundin, and Reginald Owen (as Dr. Watson). Note that this was Clive Brook's second appearance as Sherlock Holmes. He had played the character three years earlier in "The Return of Sherlock Holmes" (the "return of" in the title referred to the character, who had been played in several silent movies). A year after making this movie with Reginald Owen as Dr. Watson, World Wide Pictures made A Study in Scarlet, and perhaps in a money saving measure, they hired Reginald Owen to play Sherlock Holmes, and Clive Brook would never play Sherlock Holmes again!
