An Original 1956 Vintage Studio Brochure (measures 8 1/2" x 11; 8 pages) (Learn More)

Shichinin No Samurai (released in the U.S. in 1956 as "The Magnificent Seven", and in other English-speaking countries as "The Seven Samurai"), the classic 1954 Akira Kurosawa Japanese hired-professionals-save-a-tiny-town action epic (this great movie was the basis for the equally classic "The Magnificent Seven", it won the New York Film Critics award and was nominated for two Oscars!) starring Toshiro Mifune, Takashi Shimura, Seiji Miyaguchi, Yoshio Inaba, and Minoru Chiaki. Note that this film was first released in the U.S. under the title "The Magnificent Seven". We're not sure when the U.S. title was changed to the now familiar "The Seven Samurai", but it was certainly before the 1960 "The Magnificent Seven" was released (we have found newspaper ads from 1957 that still use the original title).
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
Important Added Info: Many people have no idea that this classic movie was first released in the U.S. under the title "The Magnificent Seven", and its title was only likely changed to "The Seven Samurai" when John Sturges planned his 1960 U.S. remake, surely to avoid confusion between the two movies. This is an incredibly rare 8-page studio brochure from Columbia Pictures sent to exhibitors (perhaps as part of a presskit or some other kind of marketing). It has blank red front and back covers and inside it has six type pages that give the cast and credits, a 2-page story of how Kurosawa came to make the movie, brief biographies of the actors (including Toshiro Mifune, who is described as having "made a great personal success in 'Rasho-Mon'", which is how Rashomon was released in the U.S.!), along with a 3-page synopsis of the movie. We have never auctioned this brochure before!

Condition: good to very good. The brochure originally was fastened with two staples at the spine and the staples are missing. There are scuffs on the blank red cover (see our image).
