Disney made this cartoon with the cooperation of the United States Department of Defense, to let the public know about the possibility of using satellite technology as a means of controlling the weather. Of course, the United States and Russia had started "the space race" in 1957, when Russia successfully launched the Sputnik satellite, and this cartoon helped gain Americans' enthusiasm for beating the Russians in this race!
