In 1940, the Nazis occupied the Netherlands, which had been a neutral country, bombing Rotterdam. The Allies attempted to free the Netherlands, and the fighting on both sides left the country devastated. Prince Bernhard was the son-in-law of Queen Wilhelmina, and although he was born a German (which made the Allies very suspicious of his loyalties!), he proved himself an incredibly loyal Dutch citizen by helping the Allies in many ways, and even becoming a pilot and flying missions, and eventually becoming a general in the Dutch army! The Prince Bernhard Committee was set up to aid the Dutch people hurt by the Nazi occupation and the allied counter attacks, and this poster requested contributions for it. It features wonderful art of a bleeding Nazi swastika imprinted over a map of the Netherlands Artist: M.H. Important Added Info: Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good to very good. The poster was folded like a U.S. one-sheet and there is tiny paper loss at the bottom two crossfolds, and a tiny bit in the right of the middle horizontal fold. There is some separation at the crossfolds and a 1" vertical tear in the left of the middle fold. There are some tiny tears and tiny paper loss in the borders. There is some ink transfer in the white areas of the poster, caused by the poster being folded too quickly after it was printed. Learn More about condition grades
