An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 44 1/4" x 60 3/4" [112 x 154 cm]) (Learn More) Croisieres Siderales (literally translates to "Star Cruises"), the 1942 Andre Zwoboda French science fiction (sci-fi) romantic fantasy comedy (a completely forgotten early time and space travel movie, which seems a shame, because the plot is very interesting, and it predates all of the Hollywood movies on the same subject; it deals with a man and a woman who are accidentally sent into space; the woman is a newlywed, and the man has an infant baby; they are only in space fifteen days, but twenty-five years pass on Earth, and when they return, the woman's newlywed husband is now an old man, and the man's baby is about to get married!) starring Madeleine Sologne, Jean Marchat, Julien Carette, Robert Arnoux, and Jean Daste. This movie was made in France when it was occupied by the Nazis, which may explain why this movie was never released in the U.S. It promotes the newly presented "Theory of Relativity" by Albert Einstein, and one wonders how the Nazis felt about that! It is the earliest movie we know of that uses this method of "time travel". The producer of the movie had no budget to speak of, so the "special effects" are very primitive, as are the costumes and set design. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: GIB Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had darkened somewhat on the foldlines and in the borders. It had small paper loss at some crossfolds, and some small tears and tiny bits of paper loss on parts of some foldlines, with an uneven tear running through the "SIDE" of the letters of the title (but no paper loss). Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster onto a thin linen "in the European style", meaning that they did little restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
