An Original (re-titled "White Cliffs") Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10 1/4" Movie Still (Learn More) The White Cliffs of Dover, the 1944 Clarence Brown World War II (WWII) England patriotic romantic melodrama ("The romance that will live forever!"; "The greatest love story of our time!"; "Based on the poem 'The White Cliffs' by Alice Duer Miller"; a tearjerker about an American woman who marries an English nobleman right before World War I, and he is killed in action, and she raises their son, but when World War II starts, he wants to be involved and she can't bear the thought of losing him too, but ultimately she relents, and he is in fact killed in action; obviously, this sort of movie was designed to help people during World War II recognize that the needs of their country came ahead of their own) starring Irene Dunne, Alan Marshal, Roddy McDowall, Frank Morgan, Van Johnson, C. Aubrey Smith, Dame May Whitty, Gladys Cooper, Peter Lawford, and Elizabeth Taylor (12 years-old, in a bit part). Note that the young son is played by Roddy McDowall, and when he grows up, he becomes Peter Lawford! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
