Date Sold 10/28/2010Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 6 Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Stills (Learn More) Trap, the 1946 Howard Bretherton Asian detective crime mystery thriller ("Suggested by Earl Derr Biggers' character") starring Sidney Toler ("as Charlie Chan"), Mantan Moreland, Victor Sen Yung (billed as "Victor Sen Young"; as Jimmy Chan), Tanis Chandler (a French actress who appeared in some Hollywood movies of the 1940s, but she returned to France and became the French dubbed voice for Hollywood actresses when those movies were shown in France!), Larry J. Blake, and Kirk Alyn (two years before his big role as Superman). Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! THE HIGH BIDDER ON THIS LOT WILL RECEIVE 6 STILLS FROM THIS MOVIE, and NOT just the four pictured! We realize there is an element of gambling to this, but we made no effort to find the best four stills in the lot, and, if you have any willingness to gamble at all, you may find that you get some great stills that were not pictured! Please do NOT bid on this lot unless you can accept that you are only seeing four of the stills. Condition: good. There are pairs of staple holes around the edges of the stills and there are some creases and scuffs throughout. There are a few 1" and smaller tears around the edges of the stills.
