A Linenbacked 1986 French Commercial Poster (made to be sold directly to the public; measures 19 3/4" x 27 1/4" [50 x 69 cm]) (Learn More) Madame d'Ora (born Dora Kallmus) was an Austrian fashion and portrait photographer from the 1900s to 1963. In 1907, she established her own studio with Arthur Benda in Vienna called the Atelier d'Ora or Madame D'Ora-Benda. D'ora and Benda operated a summer studio from 1921 to 1926 in Karlsbad, Germany, and opened another gallery in Paris in 1925. Her subjects included Josephine Baker, Coco Chanel, Tamara de Lempicka, Alban Berg, Maurice Chevalier, Colette, and other dancers, actors, painters, and writers. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had tiny tears in the lower left border, with a tiny bit of paper loss. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. At some point after it was backed, it was roughly handled, and there is now a 3" horizontal crease in the upper left border, both in the poster and the linen, and there are a few other lesser creases as well.
