An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Charlie Chan Carries On, the 1931 Hamilton MacFadden mystery crime thriller ("Scotland Yard is baffled but Charlie Chan Carries On"; based on the novel "by Earl Derr Biggers") starring Warner Oland (as Charlie Chan), John Garrick, Marguerite Churchill, Warren Hymer, Marjorie White, William Holden (no, not THAT William Holden, but another actor of the same name who made 20 movies between 1920 and 1931, and he died the next year, which was 7 years before the more famous William Holden made his first movie!), and George Brent. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought this movie, "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the very first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Also, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie posters from this movie (the very first Warner Oland Charlie Chan) is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned a single poster (only lobby cards and heralds) from this movie until we received this insert, and it may be many years before we are consigned another poster from this historic movie! Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thicker paper backing, it CAN'T be sent rolled (someone could conceivably roll it or try to do so, but we know it would definitely lessen its condition, so we will only send it in a very large flat package, unless the buyer insists, and then they would be responsible for any damage). What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had all but approximately 1/4" of each blank border neatly trimmed off, but only blank white paper was affected on all our sides. Otherwise, the poster was unfolded and in really nice condition. Depending on how much value you place on part of the blank borders trimmed off will determine what condition you thought it was in prior to restoration, since the image area was unfolded and in really nice condition.
