An Undated (probably 1950s) Re-release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) National Velvet, the classic 1944 Clarence Brown (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) horse racing sports gambling family relationship melodrama ("MGM's great technicolor heart drama"; "Based on the novel 'National Velvet' by Enid Bagnold"; about a young English girl whose father is a butcher and her mother was a former English Channel swimmer, and she dreams of owning a race horse that will win the Grand National Steeplechase, and with the support of her parents and a young man of dubious character, she fulfills her dreams) starring Mickey Rooney, Donald Crisp (as Mr. Brown), Angela Lansbury, Elizabeth Taylor (in the title role as Velvet Brown), Anne Revere (winner of the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; as Mrs. Brown), Jackie 'Butch' Jenkins (billed as "Jackie Jenkins"; in his third movie role!), Eugene Loring, and King Charles (as The Pi; after the movie, Elizabeth Taylor was given King Charles as her personal horse!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some very minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). Note that we gave this condition grade to a very few posters that were in pretty good condition prior to linenbacking, but which were not all that well linenbacked, and which could be fairly easily re-backed with only minor additional restoration. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and creases, smudges, and some separation on several foldlines. There were pinholes, creases, and a few small tears around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well. Learn More about condition grades
