A Linenbacked French Advertising Poster (measures 42 3/4" x 60 1/2" [109 x 154 cm]) (Learn More) L'Heroine De Loos (literally translates to "The Heroine of Loos"), the 1915 French poster promoting the World War I (WWI) story of Emilienne Moreau-Evrard, which was published in the French newspaper Le Petit Parisien. At age 17, Emilienne assisted British soldiers in driving the Germans from her village, and was awarded the Croix de Guerre, along with several other medals from the British. After Le Petit Parisien published her story, she became a national hero, and a 1916 movie titled "The Joan of Arc of Loos" recounted her accomplishments. During World War II (WWII) she was a high-profile female member of the "Brutus" French Resistance network, and for her work, she awarded the rare title of Compagnon de la Liberation by General Charles de Gaulle, and was one of only six women recipients of the Ordre de la Liberation. The poster had tears and areas of paper loss along parts of several folds, with many smudges and scuffs scattered throughout the image. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects, but the poster displays pretty well, especially considering it is over a century old.
