Date Sold 3/5/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Earl Carroll's Murder at the Vanities, the 1934 Mitchell Leisen musical murder mystery thriller ("Celebrated judge of feminine beauty. He chose from the country's entire beauty crop for the gorgeous girls now featured in Paramount's latest screen offering 'Murder at the Vanities'"; "A Paramount picture with the most beautiful girls in the world"; "Based on the Broadway stage hit by Earl Carroll and Rufus King") starring Carl Brisson (a Danish actor who appeared in a dozen Hollywood, English, and Danish movies, including Hitchcock's "The Ring"), Victor McLaglen, Jack Oakie, Kitty Carlisle, Toby Wing, Barbara Fritchie, and Duke Ellington and His Famous Orchestra. Note that Ann Sheridan made her fourth film appearance in this movie (in this one and the three earlier ones, she played uncredited roles as a beautiful girl, and she was billed under her real name of "Clara Lou Sheridan")! Also note that this movie was set at the real-life Earl Carroll's Vanities, a famous music and dance revue of the time, and a fictional murder takes place at the show. The real-life Earl Carroll chose the girls who appeared in the movie, but did not appear in it himself. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good to very good. The card was used in England, and for unknown reasons, they rearranged the credits by stenciling over the original credits box at top left with only two names and added in the rest of the credits in the bottom right! All those credits were on the card originally, but they were rearranged through the stenciling. We have no clue why this was done, but it definitely was professionally done and is attractive. There is also a small snipe from the British Censor Board. We leave it to bidders to decide if this unusual stenciling is a major detraction or a cool addition! Otherwise, the card is in pretty nice condition. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back!
