An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 41" x 81") (Learn More) Mogambo, the 1953 John Ford Africa jungle safari romantic love triangle adventure thriller ("Filmed on Safari in Africa!"; "from M-G-M in color by TECHNICOLOR"; "The battle of the sexes!"; "The battle of the gorillas!"; "MGM's MIGHTY 'MOGAMBO'"; "Formidable Mogambo"; "Based Upon a Play by Wilson Collison"; a remake of the 1932 "Red Dust", which surprisingly starred Clark Gable in the same role 21 years before, but in that movie, the action took place on an Indochina rubber plantation, and it was transferred to an African jungle safari company to make it more interesting!) starring Clark Gable, Ava Gardner (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Grace Kelly (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; in her third movie role!), Donald Sinden, and Philip Stainton NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some very minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). Note that we gave this condition grade to a very few posters that were in pretty good condition prior to linenbacking, but which were not all that well linenbacked, and which could be fairly easily re-backed with only minor additional restoration. The poster had very tiny paper loss at some crossfolds and creases, smudges, and some tiny tears and very tiny paper loss on some foldlines. There were areas of discoloration in the white background areas at the bottom of the poster (likely this was ink transfer caused by the poster being folded too fast after printing, and would likely be on all examples of this poster, and is a minor printing defect, as it is not very noticeable). There were some creases, smudges, and tiny tears in the borders. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, and looks great!
