Whiz Comics was best known for introducing Captain Marvel in its first issue, which was #2 (look it up if you want to know why there was no #1!), and depicted stories about other superheros such as Ibis the Invincible, Golden Arrow, and Dan Dare. In 1941, a year after this character was introduced, DC sued Whiz Comics on the basis that Captain Marvel was an imitation of Superman! It took 12 years for the lawsuit to finish, but in 1953, they were awarded $400,000, and Captain Marvel and Whiz Comics ceased publication, and the character was awarded to DC Comics, which revived it in the 1970s!
