Taut! Terrific!"; the screenwriter, Anthony Veiller, came up with a "prequel" to the classic short story, and he devised a very interesting and very believable back-story that would explain the actions of the characters in Hemingway's story) starring Burt Lancaster (in his first screen role; billed as "introducing Burt Lancaster"), Ava Gardner, Edmond O'Brien, Albert Dekker, Sam Levene, Virginia Christine, Charles D. Brown, William Conrad, Charles McGraw, Jack Lambert, Vera Lewis, Harry Hayden, Jeff Corey, and Jack Cheatham NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that it is extremely likely that this is a "key book" still, and it is virtually a certainty that the punch holes were put there by the studio at the time the still was created, so they are not a defect. Condition: very good. There is a faint diagonal crease in the upper right background area, as well as a few faint smudges and scuffs scattered in the still, but the above defects are mostly only noticeable when the still is tilted to the light.
