Date Sold 9/29/2009Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Jules Verne's Mysterious Island, the 1961 Cy Endfield English/U.S. science fiction (sci-fi) fantasy adventure thriller ("A world beyond imagination!"; "Adventure beyond belief!"; "They plunged into a world of incredible dangers and mysterious forces!"; with "Visual Effects Created by Ray Harryhausen"; "In SuperDynamation"; "Based on the Jules Verne Novel"; about prisoners of war, captured by Confederates during the Civil War, that escape to an uncharted South Pacific island via hot-air balloon!) starring Michael Craig, Joan Greenwood, Michael Callan, Gary Merrill, Beth Rogan, and Herbert Lom ("as Captain Nemo"). Note that this movie is well regarded today, but the producers were having difficulty getting financing for it, because they did not think it would do well at the box office! But Disney had a big success with "Swiss Family Robinson" the year before, which was a very similar movie to this one, and that enabled the producers of this movie to get financing! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that there were two different one-sheets created for the first release of this movie. The first type of one-sheet is dated 1961, with a SuperDynamation credit at bottom center, which is more commonly seen. The second type of one-sheet is dated 1962, without the SuperDynamation credit, and it seems to be far more rare than the 1961 posters. We think the posters dated 1962 are from the continuous release (the movie was first released in December of 1961, and because it was so popular, they probably ran out of posters and had to do a second print run), but we do not know why the SuperDynamation credit was removed, unless there was some kind of legal issue related to it, or if they were considering a name change for the process. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: good. There is rippling and discoloration throughout the poster from exposure to moisture.
