An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) The Arizonian, the 1935 Charles Vidor Arizona romantic love triangle outlaw cowboy western ("Law and order ride the raw frontier!"; about a stranger who comes to a corrupt Arizona town, where an English singer is about to leave; she stays because of him, but it turns out he is the brother of her fiance, so they can't have a romance; the stranger becomes the sheriff, and with the help of his brother and a reformed outlaw, is able to clean up the town, but which brother will get the girl?; if you have seen any old westerns, you will surely guess the answer!) starring Richard Dix, Margot Grahame, Preston Foster, Louis Calhern, Willie Best, James Bush, Hank Bell, Bob Kortman, and Slim Whitaker. Note that the character Richard Dix plays in this movie is essentially a composite of mostly Wyatt Earp, but also other famous western sheriffs who cleaned up towns. A few years later, movies like these would have the title characters named after those famous sheriffs! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that prior to 2014, we had never auctioned any first release items from this 1935 western other than window cards, lobby cards and stills. In 2014, we were consigned a half-sheet. In 2017, a different consignor had consigned this other style half-sheet, which we had never auctioned before, but the buyer did not want to pay the shipping because it needs to be sent in an oversized flat package, so he re-consigned it to us, and this is still the only example of this half-sheet we have auctioned. Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Note that while this poster technically COULD be rolled in a tube, the backing is heavy enough that we strongly advise against it. Therefore, we will only send this poster in a very large flat package, unless the new owner insists on a tube, and accepts responsibility for any damage caused by it being rolled. The poster will arrive fine and display great if it is sent in a flat package, but it will cost more to send this way, especially if the poster is being sent outside the U.S., so please only bid on this poster when you take into mind the cost of shipping it in a very large flat package. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster was never folded. It had areas of paper loss scattered in the blank borders (more so in the right of the top border, but none of it affected the image). It had a 4" tear in the upper right border that entered the image background and a 5" tear in the lower right border. It had some creases, scuffs and tiny tears in the right of the image and a few scuffs scattered in the rest of the image. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
