BOY FRIEND ('26) campaign book '26

Lease from Hershenson/Allen Archive

An Original Vintage Movie Campaign Book (Learn More)

The Boy Friend, the 1926 Monta Bell silent romantic society comedy ("Scenario by Alice D.G. Miller from John Alexander Kirkpatrick's celebrated stage play 'The Book of Charm'") starring Marceline Day, John Harron, George K. Arthur, Gertrude Astor, and Ward Crane. Note that you likely have never heard of male lead John Harron! He was one of ten children from an Irish family, and his older brother Robert was a silent star. But Robert died mysteriously in 1920, and John kind of "inherited" his career while still a teenager! But he didn't have the success of his older brother, although he made a number of movies in the 1920s. But the coming of sound meant his career was mostly over, although he continued in small roles. In 1939, he developed spinal meningitis, and died, and he was just 36, leaving a wife and young daughter.
