An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Middleton Family at the New York World's Fair, the 1939 Robert R. Snody typical-American-family-visits-the-World's-Fair melodrama ("An average American family's visit to the world of tomorrow") starring Marjorie Lord, Jimmy Lydon, Ruth Lee, Harry Shannon, and Adora Andrews. Note that this was a 55-minute feature movie paid for by Westinghouse (then a giant corporation and maker of appliances) to promote the New York World's Fair that was just opening, and of course to promote Westinghouse's major exhibit at that World's Fair. The movie shows a "typical" American family with a grandmother who keeps talking about the good old days. It presents a very rosy view of the future, not realizing that World War II was just around the corner, and would completely alter its predictions. It did correctly predict the success of television (pictured on the poster, but oddly, Westinghouse, which was a leader in television, would soon quit the market!). It had a robot that never came to be (it is pictured on the poster), and missed the mark in many other ways. The one-sheet for this unusual movie features great artwork of the World's Fair with the Trylon and Perisphere prominent in the center. Until recently, it could not be seen, but it has been made available on the Internet (Westinghouse did not fare as well, because it was sold to Viacom in 1999 and the merged company got out of its trademark businesses, and essentially no longer exists).
