An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Luke's Fatal Flivver, the 1916 Hal Roach silent comedy short ("1 Reel Lonesome Luke Comedy"; about a man giving a bunch of his friends a ride in his car, and there are far too many people to fit in it!) starring Harold Lloyd (in the title role as Lonesome Luke), 'Snub' Pollard, Bebe Daniels, Bud Jamison, and Charles Stevenson. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. Also note that Harold Lloyd created the character called "Lonesome Luke" in 1915, as a sort of Charlie Chaplin imitation. He became extremely popular, and 67 shorts starring Luke were made over the next few years. In 1943, there was a fire and an explosion in the vault where all of these films (and many others) were stored, and 53 of the 67 were lost permanently, and only 14 survive. Movie paper of any kind from any of the Lonesome Luke shorts is beyond rare! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: As noted above, ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single movie paper item from this movie until we received this one-sheet. Not only that, but this is the ONLY item of movie paper from ANY of the 67 Lonesome Luke shorts that we have EVER auctioned! It may be many years before we auction another item. They are THAT rare! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had creases at the top and bottom crossfolds, with the tiniest of paper loss at each crossfold. The poster was folded in half an extra time and it had just a few tiny bits of paper loss on parts of the folds. It had a cut in the top border (it looks like a razor cut) that ran in between the "T" and "H" of "PATHE" (slightly affecting the top left corner of the "H"), and running down into the white area above the hat (there was no paper loss on that cut). The poster had a diagonal tear in the top right corner, with tiny paper loss in the blank border at the end of the tear. The poster also had what was likely another razor cut in the lower left corner, running from the lower black background below the "1 Reel Lon", and then extending down through the "O" of "ROLIN", and again there was no paper loss on that cut. Other than the above defects, the poster survived in surprisingly nice condition. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. I go into such detail about the poster's defects because of its extreme rarity, but it truly has survived really well, and it will display wonderfully on the new owner's wall!
