eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 5y368 HOPE HAMPTON signed 8x10 publicity still '62 she's twisting at the Stork Club by Jerry Sachs! Date Sold 4/11/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Autographed 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Publicity Still (Learn More) Hope Hampton was an actress in the 1920s only (see below for why). She was born Mae Elizabeth Hampton in Houston, Texas in 1897, and won a beauty contest, and quickly became a star in silent movies. In 1922, she met married film executive Jules Brulatour, and became his mistress, and the following year, he divorced his wife and married Hampton. In 1927, she retired and became an opera singer, but she spent more of her time as a society lady, and among other things, she amassed a collection of over 5,000 designer gowns! She came out of retirement for one movie in 1938 (directed by her husband), and they remained married until he passed away in 1946. She was prominent socially for many years and she passed away in 1982, at the age of 84. Important Added Info: Note that this publicity still (which shows Miss Hampton at age 65, so she was certainly a "swinging senior"!) has been personally autographed (signed) by Hope Hampton! It is also signed by "Michael Clay", the man in the picture, and we found a newspaper reference to Miss Hampton and Mr. Clay dancing the Twist at the Stork Club in 1961, so we imagine he was a "celebrity" in some way, but we don't know in what way! This publicity still, which is an original from 1962, has a photo credit for Jerry Sachs, a New York photographer, on the back. Note that this item was consigned to us by a man who was a major movie memorabilia dealer from the 1980s on. During that time, he would regularly purchase collections of movie memorabilia from both dealers and collectors, and in some of those collections he purchased autographed items, and over the years he did not re-sell any of the autographed items. Now he has gathered up together all of his autographed items and consigned them to us. So all of the items from this consignor we are auctioning were purchased by this dealer from longtime dealers and collectors, and we feel it is quite likely that the autograph on this item is authentic! Condition: very good. Learn More about condition grades
