Important Added Info: Note that the commonly accepted release date for this classic Alfred Hitchcock movie is 1940, but this original one-sheet carries a 1939 copyright date. It is not uncommon for posters to be dated in the year prior, especially if they were released at the start of the year. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tears and tiny bits of paper loss scattered down the vertical foldline. There were tears and tiny paper loss in the top horizontal fold, including small areas in both of Fontaine's eyebrows. There was a much lesser amount of wear on the other two horizontal folds, but there was a 1 1/2" vertical tear in the bottom of the "a" of "Rebecca". There was a 6" diagonal tear in the upper right border, extending into Olivier's ear and hair. There was a 3" vertical tear in the right of Fontaine's cheek and a long diagonal cut or crease running from the middle of the right border up through Olivier's collar, and ending below Fontaine's ear. There were many tiny pairs of staple holes around the edges of the poster, with some tears and tiny paper loss. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. But the poster was extremely well backed by a really talented professional, and it displays really well (and since most of the defects were tears or tiny staple holes, there really wasn't very much paper loss in the poster at all). The poster will display fantastically on anyone's wall, and no one would realize the restoration it had had, except by looking at it from inches away. Learn More about condition grades
