An Original Vintage Unfolded Political Campaign Poster (measures 14 1/4" x 21 1/2" [36 x 55 cm]) (Learn More) George McGovern was a liberal politician in South Dakota from 1957 to 1977. He was a U.S. Representative, U.S. Senator, and the Democratic Party presidential nominee in the 1972 presidential election. Note that McGovern was beaten by Richard Nixon in a landslide victory, partially because Nixon had McGovern's campaign headquarters bugged, which led to the entire Watergate scandal, and caused Nixon to resign as President. He passed away in 2012 at the age of 90. AND Sargent Shriver was an American politician and activist from the 1950 to the 1970s. As the husband of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, he was part of the Kennedy family, serving in the Kennedy and Johnson administrations. He was the driving force behind the creation of the Peace Corps, founded the Job Corps, Head Start and other programs, served as the U.S. Ambassador to France, and during the 1972 U.S. presidential election, he was George McGovern's running mate as the Democratic Party's nominee for Vice President. He passed away in 2011 at the age of 95. Artist: B. Ulan Important Added Info: Note that this poster is printed on a light window card-like stock, and it is guaranteed authentic from when the poster was first created in 1972 (it is not dated, but we know that this is when the election was held). Also note that this was originally consigned to us together with other guaranteed authentic 1940s to 1970s political posters that we were consigned seven years ago! They were acquired by an archive right when they were created, and were stored ever since. We auctioned those posters in 2016, and this one has been reconsigned to us by the person who bought it then. These are the sorts of posters that you can find reproductions of on the Internet, but finding guaranteed originals like these is incredibly difficult (years can go by before these are offered for sale or at auction). Condition: very good. There are tiny staple holes scattered down the left and a few faint smudges and creases scattered throughout the poster. Otherwise, it is in pretty nice condition.
