An Undated (probably 1950s) Re-Release Theatrical Folded Belgian Movie Poster (measures 14 3/4" x 22" [37 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Mayerling, the 1936 (released in the U.S. in 1937) Anatole Litvak French historical doomed lovers romantic melodrama ("The true story of a Crown Prince who sacrificed his throne for the woman he loved"; "He defied the world for her!"; based on the real life story of Crown Prince Rudolph of Germany, who meets a beautiful young girl after he is forced into a loveless marriage, and he carries on an affair, but the girl is taken away and he becomes an alcoholic, and he finds her, and tries to marry her, and they are not allowed to, so they spend one last night together in Mayerling, and then commit suicide) starring Charles Boyer, Danielle Darrieux, Marthe Regnier, Yolande Laffron, and Suzy Prim. Note that there were two later versions of this movie, one in 1952 with Jean Ayme and Denise Benoit and one in 1968 with Omar Sharif and Catherine Deneuve. Also note that Charles Boyer started as an actor in French movies in 1921 at the age of 22. He made his first American movie, The Magnificent Lie, in 1931, but his greatest success came in the 1940s!
