He started as a singer with cowboy bands in the 1930s, and was known as "Little George Gobel". After service in World War II, he got his own TV show ("The George Gobel Show"), and with his trademark brush cut and his "every man" persona, he became very popular as "Lonesome George" Gobel. After Charlie Weaver died, he replaced him as the "center square" on TV's "Hollywood Squares". Some of his movies include: I Married a Woman, Rabbit Test, and Ellie. He passed away in 1991 at the age of 71. Important Added Info: Note that this REPRODUCTION still has been personally autographed (signed) by George Gobel! Also note that this still measures 7 1/2" x 9 1/2" [19 x 24 cm]. It was nicely matted and the entire display measures 11" x 14". Our consignor is a very longtime collector of movie paper and autographed items who purchased this signed item over the years, and he either obtained it from a dealer through the mail, or by writing to the celebrity, and in each case, he compared the autograph he received with known examples of that star's handwriting, and he (and we) believe that this autograph is authentic.
