An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

Robot Monster, the 1953 Phil Tucker 3-D (3D; 3-Dimension) science fiction (sci-fi) horror thriller (perhaps the worst movie ever made; "Moon monsters launch attack against Earth!"; "Moon monsters launch Earth attack!"; "Adventures into the Future"; "How can science meet the menace of astral assassins? New science-fiction thrills!"; "Monsters attack Earth!"; "Adventures into the future in NEW Tru-3 dimension!") starring George Nader, Claudia Barrett, Selena Royle, John Mylong, Gregory Moffett, Pamela Paulson, George Barrows, and John Brown (in the title role as the voice of the robot). Note that "Plan Nine From Outer Space" has often been mentioned as the worst movie ever made, but many people feel this movie is a strong contender for that title! The making of the movie is as interesting as the movie itself (it was shot in four days, it "steals" special effects from other movies, etc).
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned three example sof this half-sheet, and the last one sold for $1,312! Also note that this movie was originally in 3-D. The studios created both 3D and 2D posters and lobby cards (the 2-D posters and lobby cards were for theaters that lacked the 3-D equipment). This poster is from the "3-D" release.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster was never folded. It had some small pen or pencil marks at top center, below the "AD" of "ADVENTURES". It had some horizontal creases scattered across the middle, with a lesser number scattered in the rest of the poster. It had a 9" horizontal tear in the left border extending into the monster's collar. It had pinholes, creases, and some tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, with no excess, but after it was backed, it was likely in a tube that got somewhat crushed, because there are now seven partial vertical creases in both the poster and in the linen backing. The poster also acquired two areas of surface paper loss in the girl's face. Obviously, someone could remove the poster from the linen and properly re-back it, but bear in mind all of the above before bidding on it.
