Date Sold 12/8/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Undated (probably 1960s) Re-Release (re-titled "I Hate Your Guts" for this re-release) Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 28" x 42" [71 x 107 cm]) (Learn More) The Intruder, the 1962 Roger Corman racial tension melodrama ("The picture that dares to portray our morals as they really are."; "What act would call a woman to say 'I Hate Your Guts'"; "We have the courage to show it... have you the courage to see it..."; "The public is entitled to know is there more prejudice in the North or the South?"; "The picture that calls a spade a spade."; produced by Roger Corman) starring William Shatner, Frank Maxwell, Beverly Lunsford, Robert Emhardt, Jeanne Cooper, Charles Barnes, Charles Beaumont, and George Clayton Johnson. Note that based on newspaper theater ads, this movie was re-released as I Hate Your Guts as early as 1963, and continued to be released under that title to at least 1967. Also in 1966, it started to be released as a sexploitation movie called "Shame" (often as a double-bill with Poor White Trash), and that continued into 1967. Many 1966-67 newspapers ads specifically mention "TV's William Shatner" or "TV Star William Shatner" to cash in on his success as Captain Kirk in Star Trek. Oddly, Shatner's name and image do not appear on the re-release posters that we have seen, so we can't definitely date them. It has been suggested that this is because Shatner threatened legal action, but in a 1966 newspaper interview, Shatner said that he was unaware that the movie had been re-released and only discovered it after a friend told him. Both re-release posters may be from 1966 (and this is even more likely with Shame), but to be safe, we are calling them 1960s re-releases. Also note that the writer of the movie, Charles Beaumont (a writer for The Twilight Zone TV show), appeared as an actor in the movie, and his fellow Twilight Zone writer, George Clayton Johnson, also appeared as an actor in the movie! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: As noted above, this is a very curious poster. It has the image from the 1960s re-release, which previously we thought was solely as "Shame", but it has the 1966 re-release title, "I Hate Your Guts" printed on it! We have never auctioned this poster before. Also note that this one-sheet measures 28" x 42" [71 x 107 cm]. Note that this one-sheet is one of the 28 folded one-sheets in this Part I of eMoviePoster.com's December Major Auction that were not consigned to us by Dominique Besson. It was consigned to us by another collector, but that in no way diminishes this poster, and it fits well with the Besson collection. What is the Dominique Besson collection? He started collecting movie posters in 1981, and became a dealer in French and European posters in 1994, and has remained as a top dealer ever since! But in addition, 30 years ago, Dominique began collecting U.S. one-sheets, first those with Saul Bass art, and then adding Alfred Hitchcock posters, then Humphrey Bogart, and he finally ended up collecting in an amazing total of 47 different categories, purchasing the posters from all over the world! Now the time has come to sell this wonderful collection, and Dominique has chosen eMoviePoster.com to do so, through our auctions! This is not all of the Dominique Besson collection we are auctioning. In addition, there are approximately 200 more folded one-sheets that will be in Part IV of this special auction (ones from the 1970s to present), and there are approximately 100 unfolded one-sheets that will be in Part III (including many great ones). This is a very rare opportunity to purchase folded one-sheets (all of which have had no professional restoration) from one of the greatest one-sheet collections assembled! Note that this one-sheet is being auctioned in the category that Dominique Besson labeled "1960s". Condition: good. The poster has smudges scattered in the top and bottom that are likely ink transfer from the solid black areas (this seems extremely likely because there are entire letters that are transferred to the top from the bottom). The top and bottom 2 1/2" were folded back at one time. Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly restored.
