An Original Vintage Folded English Six-Sheet (called a 12sh in England) Stage Play Poster (6sh; measures 79 1/2" x 88" [202 x 224 cm]) (Learn More) Babes in the Wood, the circa 1930s English stage play production. The posters feature really cool artwork (one three-sheet has a well-dressed female knight with two small children in the woods, another three-sheet features sleeping children and birds, the six-sheet has a great image of two small children in the woods with living trees menacing them, and the British quad has two small children watching two men dueling with swords)! A collector from England tells us he believes that this poster (and the other English stage play posters from other classic fairy tales) were used for local Christmas pantomimes (that were very professional productions) that were held all over England for many years. Most of the posters were produced by Taylors of Wombwell from 1929 to the late 1930s (but it seems likely that the posters we are auctioning date from the late 1930s). It was quite common in those pantomimes for women to play boys' roles, and for men to play the roles of unlikeable women (like witches and mean old ladies!). If anyone knows more about this play or this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: It is interesting to note that the artwork on this poster is very close in nature to that of the art of Snow White and the trees from the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, so it seems likely this poster dates from around the time of that film's release in 1937 or possibly a little later! Note that this English six-sheet measures 79 1/2" x 88" [202 x 224 cm]. Also note that this English six-sheet was printed in 6 sections designed to overlap. Condition: very good to fine. The poster was likely never used and has minor fold and border wear. Learn More about condition grades
