HYDE 8x10.25 still 1933 Fredric March in full make-up scared Hopkins! Date Sold 2/14/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original 1933 (from the continuous release of this 1931 movie) Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10 1/4" [20 x 26 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the 1931 Rouben Mamoulian double-personality fantasy monster horror thriller ("Based on the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson") starring Fredric March (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in both title roles; he tied with Wallace Beery who won for The Champ), Miriam Hopkins, Rose Hobart, Holmes Herbert, Edgar Norton, and Halliwell Hobbes. Note that this movie premiered in New York City on New Year's Eve 1931, and then went into general release in the U.S. in 1932. So except for that one night, it is a 1932 movie, but because it is always identified as being from 1931, we also identify it that way! That also helps explain why there is movie paper dated 1933. It was a giant hit, and the movie was surely still in its first release into 1933, and more paper was printed as it was needed. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this wonderful still is somewhat of a mystery. We know this movie had a full scale re-release in 1935, but this still is dated 1933. Over the years, we have had a few other stills that had the same date at the bottom and looked the same as this still. Our best guess is that the movie was such a big hit that when it was still in continuous release two years after its first release, more movie paper was needed, and Paramount printed additional stills (and maybe other sizes) in 1933, and put that date on the stills (and if we are correct about it having been in continuous release for nearly two years, then this is not a "re-release", because it is from the 1933 continuous release). While not from the very first 1931 release, this IS from just two years later, and will certainly be loved by its new owner! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: very good. There are a few faint creases in the upper right background area. Otherwise, the still is in nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
