Thalberg was a producer, writer and director from the 1920s to the 1930s. His best films were Brown of Harvard, The Big Parade, and Show People AND Norma Shearer, the great MGM leading lady of the 1920s and 1930s. She was married to studio head Irving Thalberg in 1927, and that seemed to greatly help her career, and his untimely death in 1936 seemed to coincide with the decline of her career. But that is probably really unfair, because while her marriage to Thalberg greatly helped her get top parts, she did wonderfully in many major movies! Some of her movies include: Romeo & Juliet, The Barretts of Wimpole Street, Marie Antoinette (in the title role as Marie Antoinette), The Divorcee, Escape, and The Women Important Added Info: Note that this news photo, which measures 8" x 10 1/4" [20 x 26 cm], was taken on 4/23/33, when this legendary "power couple" (MGM head Irving Thalberg and his wife, actress Norma Shearer) went on the S.S. California through the Panama Canal to first New York and then on to Europe. It was then used in Motion Picture magazine in 1937, after Thalberg's sad death that year. Condition: very good. There is a pinhole in each right corner, with some small creases and a few faint smudges around the edges. Learn More about condition grades
