An Original Vintage Folded French Special Movie Poster (measures 39 1/2" x 59" [100 x 150 cm]) (Learn More)

Le Premier Duel de Willy (literally translates to "Willy's First Duel"), the 1914 Joseph Faivre French silent romantic comedy short starring William Sanders (in the title role as Willy). It appears this movie was never released in the U.S. Note that William Sanders was born in 1906, and made his first comedy short in 1910, playing a character called "Willy" (sometimes referred to as "Willie"). These comedies were very much like the later Our Gang comedies, filled with slapstick situations of all kinds. Surprisingly, Sanders was able to continue in the role for the next six years, making 71 of these Willy comedies, during which he aged from 4 to 10, at which point he retired. We don't know what became of him after that, but he lived all the way to 1990! If anyone knows more about him, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
Artist: Edward Bernard
Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare pre-World War II French poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie, which we only auctioned once before! Virtually no French posters survive from before, during, or right after World War II. Apparently there were many paper shortages in France during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all pre-World War II posters!

Condition: fair.
