An Original 1961 Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 10 3/4" x 17" [27 x 43 cm]; 16 pages) (Learn More) A Bout de Souffle (released in the U.S. in 1961 as "Breathless"), the classic 1960 Jean-Luc Godard French New Wave romantic gangster crime thriller (about a small time thief who steals a car and murders a policeman, and he tries to persuade his beautiful American journalism student girlfriend to run away to Italy with him, but she has misgivings) starring Jean Seberg, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Daniel Boulanger, Jean-Pierre Melville, Henri-Jacques Huet, Liliane David, Claude Mansard, and Van Doude. Note that this movie, together with Francois Truffaut's "Les quatre cents coups" began the French "New Wave", which revolutionized film-making, not only in France, but the world over! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this pressbook has a cool triple die-cut cover that has three small "covers" on top of the first full page so that every few letters of the title are on a different sheet! Also note that the other first release U.S. paper we have seen on this movie references the distributor as "Films Around the World", which this one does, but it also has a large "Released by Twentieth Century-Fox" at the bottom of the back cover. We have seen another example of this pressbook where that area solely says "distributed by Films Around the World". We don't know if Fox originally intended to release the movie after the small distributor did, and then dropped out, or if there is a different explanation. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook, and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: very good to fine, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. There is slight darkening around the edges of the covers, and there is a piece of silver tape over a credit near the bottom of the back cover, but otherwise, the pressbook is in nice condition!
