Date Sold 10/27/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A Laminated Original Vintage Theatrical One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 39" [69 x 99 cm]) (Learn More) House on Haunted Hill (some stills identify the movie as "House of Haunted Hill" but a collector tells us that he saw the film on the opening weekend and it was titled "House on Haunted Hill"), the 1959 William Castle haunted house horror thriller ("First film with the amazing new wonder Emergo [specially installed for this engagement] The thrills fly right into the audience!"; "The 13 greatest shocks of all time! Consult your doctor! Bring your seat belts! See it with someone with warm hands!") starring Vincent Price, Carol Ohmart, Richard Long, Alan Marshal, Elisha Cook Jr., Carolyn Craig, Julie Mitchum, and Leona Anderson. Note that the "gimmick" for this movie (Emergo) described above consisted of an actual fake skeleton that was pulled out from above the screen on a wire and dragged across the audience when the skeleton on the movie comes out of its box, and then it is reeled back in across the audience, making two trips. This required special equipment, and apparently many theaters chose not to install it, because the pressbook has special ads for it only for theaters that have the Emergo equipment. We have read that some of the theaters that DID install the equipment had it uninstalled, once teen boys learned of it, because they would come to the showings with slingshots and damage the skeleton with rocks or BBs! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been laminated! It is quite likely that there is no way to reverse this process. However, I have seen many posters and lobby cards that have been laminated for over 20 years, and the lamination does not hurt the items in any way (and some of the posters were laminated as much as 40 years ago, so it certainly seems that if it were going to damage the item, it would have happened by now!), plus it seems to completely protect them, while allowing them to be easily displayed with no fear of damage. HOWEVER, PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THIS POSTER UNLESS YOU WANT TO PURCHASE A LAMINATED ITEM! Also note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 27" x 39" [69 x 99 cm]. Note that this laminated poster comes to us from a very longtime collector who, decades ago, had most of his collection laminated. As we said above, even though it has been a very long time since this was done, the posters this collector consigned (11 one-sheets and 8 inserts, in 19 separate auctions) likely look just as they did when he first had them laminated, so they certainly can be displayed and enjoyed. But they all have to be sent in very large flat packages (the one-sheets approximately 29" x 43", and the inserts approximately 16" x 38"), so bear this added expense in mind before bidding. Condition: good. Prior to lamination, part of the top and bottom blank borders was trimmed off, no doubt so that the laminated poster could fit in a frame afterwards. It had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and pretty minor fold and border wear. PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THIS POSTER UNLESS YOU WANT TO PURCHASE A LAMINATED ITEM! Learn More about condition grades
