Important Added Info: Note 2001: A Space Odyssey opened in 70mm in 1968 in a roadshow release. In 1969 it went into wide release in 35mm, and the movie was not as successful. The film was then given an entirely new 70mm New York City ad campaign in March 1970. That proved successful and the movie received a national release in 1970 (part of the continuous first release since 1968), and the one-sheet for this release shows the star child (but it has less color than the "wildposting" one-sheet used in New York). However, after being out of the theaters briefly, the movie was re-released in 1971, and this 1971 re-release one-sheet has the same image as the March 1970 wilding poster, and like it, the coloring is part purple and part a blue-green, making the poster much more effective. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had fine surface paper loss on parts of some foldlines (typical of high-gloss posters of this period). It also had a partial extra horizontal fold near the top one and a series of vertical scuffs scattered down the center, 1" to the right of the middle fold. It had a 3" horizontal crease 2" below the middle crossfold and small paper loss at the bottom crossfold. It had some creases around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
