An Original Vintage Wooden Rocking Horse (measures approximately 10" wide, 24" tall, and 39 1/2" long) (Learn More) Tom Mix & Tony Rocking Horse, the circa 1930s wooden rocking horse created by Mengel Playthings. The rocking horse features an image of Hollywood actor Tom Mix. Tom Mix was a huge cowboy/western star from the 1910s through the early 1930s (he died of a road accident in 1940). Along with his horse named Tony, he did his own stunts and was the king of cowboys during the 1920s. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this auction is for an original vintage wooden rocking horse (it is absolutely NOT any sort of re-creation or replica). The rocking horse was likely made sometime in the 1930s by "Mengel Playthings" in St. Louis, Missouri (some sources say Louisville, Kentucky). Of course, Tom Mix was a huge star from the late 1910s through the early 1930s! More information about Tom Mix, including a wonderful picture of a young boy and two friends with one of these rocking horses, can be found here. If anyone knows more about this toy, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: very good. It appears someone replaced the small bolts in the top of the metal supports at left and right with new bolts (likely because the old ones were wearing out). There are some scratches throughout the painted areas of the horse, as one would expect from a child's toy, and there is some dust throughout the piece. Otherwise, the horse is solid and it displays pretty well. Please see our super-sized images for more detail. Learn More about condition grades
