eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 2a0512 TARZAN THE APE MAN linen LC 1932 art of Johnny Weissmuller & Maureen O'Sullivan, very rare! Date Sold 4/17/2022Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 10 7/8" x 14 1/8" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Tarzan, the Ape Man, the 1932 W.S. Van Dyke jungle adventure action melodrama ("The thrill of thrills!"; "The producers of 'Trader Horn' have again brought out of the African jungle another great romantic thriller!"; "Based upon the Characters created by Edgar Rice Burroughs") starring Johnny Weissmuller (in the title role as Tarzan), Neil Hamilton, Maureen O'Sullivan (as Jane), C. Aubrey Smith, Doris Lloyd, Ray Corrigan, Jack Leonard (both as uncredited apes!) and Cheetah (played by an uncredited chimpanzee). Note that Crash Corrigan and Jack Leonard both made a REALLY wise investment in the 1930s, when they acquired "gorilla suits". In many of the movies in the 1930s and 1940s where there is a fake gorilla, it is played by either Crash Corrigan or Jack Leonard, no doubt because they could supply the suits! Of course, this was one of the most successful "franchises" in movie history, with several sequels with Weissmuller and O'Sullivan, and then more movies with just Weissmuller alone (after O'Sullivan left the franchise), and then other actors took up the lead role many different times! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this first release title card, and it sold for $5,808! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The card's borders were trimmed off, and it also had some pinholes, tears, and small paper loss around the edges, with some smudges, creases, and scuffs scattered in the image. Overall, the card was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. The card was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Also, the person who did the linenbacking left 1/4" excess border on all four sides, and the lobby card itself measures 10 7/8" x 14 1/8". Learn More about condition grades
