An Original Vintage Campaign Book (measures 13" x 13" [33 x 33 cm]; 119 pages) (Learn More) Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's Parade of Hits, the 1926 MGM campaign book featuring images and information about upcoming MGM movie releases for the 1926-27 season, including films with stars such as Ramon Novarro, Buster Keaton, Lon Chaney Sr., Lillian Gish and many, many more. What makes this book really special is that it has pages with a printed border that have a beautiful tipped-in 8" x 10" color and black & white image of the stars (with their names printed underneath), and there are also full-page artwork ads for the upcoming films (they had done the same thing the year before in the 1925-26 book, and apparently, they got a good response, so they did it again, and this time the art was better than the year before, because they are full-color artwork ads, where the year before, they were mostly line drawings, and many are extremely striking!). Note that even though this campaign book was sent to many theater owners, it appears that very few examples have survived. I have been a collector of campaign books and related material for many years, and I know for certain that this campaign book is extremely rare! Finally, note that campaign books in general are extremely rare, and the best of them have often sold for hundreds of dollars, and in the case of the very finest, thousands of dollars! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this campaign book, and it was only in "fair" condition, and it sold for $357! Note: We have 18 images of the campaign books in this set, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 18 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 8. Condition: very good. The book has a very unusual defect, which is simply a binding error. The page with an image of Claire Windsor tipped-in has been bound in upside-down! One might think that the image was simply glued in upside-down, but since the printing on that page is also upside-down, it is a certainty it is a binding error. Also, there is an odd small defect, which is that six of the early pages, which have images of stars and directors, have a 2" razor cut in the lower left corner (it is three sheets that are printed on both sides, which is why it is six pages). The razor cut does not affect the text or images. It looks like someone started to cut them out of the book and then changed their mind. Other than these two odd defects, the book is in generally nice condition! Someone put a plastic protective sleeve over the covers. Learn More about condition grades
