An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Sea Wolf, the 1920 George Melford silent sailor sailing melodrama ("By Jack London"; about the captain of a sailing ship who firmly believes that it is better to reign in Hell than to serve in Heaven, and lives and dies by his belief) starring Noah Beery Sr. (in the title role as 'Wolf' Larsen), James Gordon, Raymond Hatton, A. Edward Sutherland, Walter Long, Mabel Julienne Scott, and Tom Forman (as Humphrey Van Weyden). Note that the movie remade in 1930 starring Milton Sills, and it was remade by Michael Curtiz in 1941 with Edward G. Robinson, Ida Lupino and John Garfield in the lead roles. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper items from this movie are incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned all seven scene lobby cards from this movie (and NO other movie paper of any kind) until we received this title card! Note that in the days immediately following World War I, there were a huge amount of returning veterans who could not find jobs, and labor was cheap and plentiful. This likely explains why the studios began hand-coloring lobby cards, and they also would sometimes have glitter applied to the letters of the title card! This was incredibly time consuming, because it was done to every single card one by one (in the case of the glitter, the person would apply glue to the letters, then shake glitter over the card, and let it dry, just as we all did in kindergarten!). As economic conditions improved in the country, and as printing technology also improved, these methods of decorating cards vanished! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good. There is glitter around the letters of the title (see above). There is a 2" diagonal crease at upper center that runs into the eye of the man at right. There are many tiny brown stains scattered throughout the card, with creases around the edges and paper loss in the bottom left corner. Please look at our super-sized images to get a good sense of the exact condition of this card before placing a bid. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
