An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Down Among the Sheltering Palms, the 1953 Edmund Goulding tropical island romantic military musical comedy ("Based on a Story by Edward Hope"; "8 Great Songs") starring William Lundigan, Jane Greer, Mitzi Gaynor, David Wayne, Gloria De Haven, Gene Lockhart, Jack Paar, Alvin Greenman, Billy Gilbert, and Henry Kulky. Note that this movie was filmed in 1951, and movie paper was prepared for its release in that year (with a 1951 NSS number), but the movie was delayed and not released until 1953, at which time new movie paper was created with 1953 NSS numbers. Given that this movie bears a striking resemblance to "South Pacific" (it combines plot elements of that play with others from "Teahouse of the August Moon"), which had not yet been filmed, but which was a hit Broadway musical in 1951, it seems likely that the release of this movie was delayed because of litigation.
