Artist: Philip Castle Important Added Info: Note that this 24-sheet is one of a remarkable group of six 24-sheets (and one English 30-sheet) that we are offering in seven separate auctions. These posters (often referred to as "billboard posters") were always pasted to walls or billboards when they were used, so the only ones that survive are the few that didn't get used at the time. But VERY, VERY few 24-sheets survive from any movie from before 1990, because no one thought to save them, and the unused ones were almost always trashed. To give you a sense of how very rare they are, we have held over 1.2 million auctions, and of those, around 75 of them were for 24-sheets, and only a dozen of them were from before 1960! So not only are the seven billboard movie posters offered here extremely rare (and some may be the only remaining example in existence), but they are also some of the very small number of billboard movie posters still in existence period! Note that this twenty-four sheet was printed in 16 sections designed to overlap. This 24-sheet poster was folded in a way that makes it resemble a tri-folded six-sheet (only much larger, of course, as there are many more sections). But the length and width of the folded 24-sheet is just about the same as that of a folded six-sheet or three-sheet. This means that this 24-sheet needs to be sent in an oversized flat package, which will measure roughly 16" x 36", and approximately 2" high, and it will cost more to send than a regular sized package. Note that this poster was stamped "DOM" which means it was printed for use within the United States (there would also have been posters stamped "FOR" for use outside the United States). Finally, note that this movie was originally released in the United States with an "X" rating. It was soon re-released with an "R" rating, and the posters with the "X" rating have always been more difficult to find than those with an "R" rating! Condition: very good to fine. The poster was clearly never used. There is a tiny area of paper loss on a foldline that was on the outside when it was fully folded (it is in the upper left blank white area). There is very slight darkening on the edges of some of the pieces and some tiny tears in the borders and in small parts of some folds, but it likely has survived in as good condition as one would hope for a poster of this size from this time!
