A Linenbacked Travel Poster (measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) New York Central Railroad (also known as New York Central Lines and New York Central System) was a railroad primarily operating in the Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States from 1853 to 1968. The railroad connected greater New York and Boston in the east with Chicago and St. Louis in the Midwest, along with the intermediate cities of Albany, Buffalo, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit, and Syracuse. In 1968, the NYC merged with its former rival, the Pennsylvania Railroad, to form Penn Central. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this travel poster! Also note that the Castleton Cut-Off was an extensive expansion project which was authorized by Alfred H. Smith, the president of New York Central Railroad at the time. It involved the building of a bridge spanning the Hudson River, which was eventually named in honor of Smith who died in a horse-riding accident in Central Park in 1924, prior to the completion of the bridge in that same year. There was a diagonal crease in the top and bottom borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
