An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Six-Sheet Movie Poster (6sh; measures 81 1/2" x 82" [207 x 208 cm]) (Learn More) The Streets of New York, the 1913 Travers Vale silent New York City financial crime melodrama ("The sensational feature in 3 parts"; "From the well know play by Dion Boucicault") starring J.H. Roberts, Louise Vale, Madge Orlamond, Herbert Barrington, and J.W. Hartman. Note that it is normally very difficult to locate information on movies that are this early, but fortunately, we found the original review from Moving Picture World. It contains an epic story containing many years, and in order to tell it all, it had to be done in three films, which is why the posters say "The sensational feature in 3 parts". Trying to summarize such an involved story is difficult, but basically, it concerns a sea captain who comes to a New York City bank, wanting to deposit $100,000, a huge sum at the time. He doesn't know that this is the exact time of the 1907 bank panic, in which many banks went broke, but the banker he leaves the money with sees it as a godsend that will save his bank! But the next day, the captain learns of the panic, and goes to the bank to demand his money back, and the banker, who is with his assistant, refuses, and the captain has a heart attack and dies. That leaves the banker with the money, and he sends his assistant out West, and he uses the stolen money to save his bank. Meanwhile, the captain had a wife, a son, and a daughter, who all become destitute, because their father's money was stolen. Years go by, and the banker is one of New York's wealthiest, and he finds out about the captain's family, and is worried that they might expose his crime. Meanwhile, his assistant comes back, and he has the receipt the banker gave the captain, and he intends to blackmail the banker with it. By an amazing coincidence, he moves into a rented place next to the captain's poor family, and the banker goes there, and sets the entire building on fire, so that the captain's family and the man blackmailing him will all die in the fire! There is even more, but you'll have to see the movie (or find the review) to learn the rest of the story. Obviously, this was a very early feature film that predated "The Birth of a Nation" by two years, but it is completely forgotten today, except by major film buffs! If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never previously auctioned any movie paper from this 1913 feature movie. However, a very longtime collector decades ago purchased three posters from this movie (the one-sheet, three-sheet, and six-sheet), and he has now consigned all three to us, and we are auctioning them in three separate auctions! This auction is for the six-sheet, which shows the climactic scene from the movie where the banker sets an entire tenement on fire in order to kill the people who could expose his crimes! Note that this six-sheet was printed in 6 sections designed to overlap. Also note that the six sections of this poster were folded at one time but have been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled together in a tube. Condition: very good. The six-sheet was printed in six pieces. There are some tears and paper loss on part of one fold of one section (which was on the outside when the poster was fully folded). Otherwise, the sections have pretty minor fold wear and a small amount of tears and tiny paper loss in small parts of the borders of some sections. Learn More about condition grades
