eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 3w001 MAD LOVE window card '35 bodyless hands attack Peter Lorre in Karl Freund horror classic! Date Sold 2/12/2009Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Window Card (LC; measures 13" x 16") (Learn More) Mad Love, the 1935 Karl Freund medical doctor transplant romantic love triangle horror thriller ("Dead hands that live... and love... and kill!"; based on the French novel "Les Mains D'Orlac" [The Hands of Orlac] by Maurice Renard; about a mad plastic surgeon who is madly in love with an actress, but she is married to a concert pianist, but then his hands are crushed, and she convinces the plastic surgeon to replace his hands with a "hand transplant", but he uses the hands of an executed murderer, and the transplanted hands have ideas of their own!) starring Peter Lorre, Frances Drake, Colin Clive, Ted Healy (most famous as the person who started The Three Stooges; they were first billed as "Ted Healy and his Stooges"; he let them go on their own, hiring replacement "Stooges", but that did not work out well at all!), Isabel Jewell, Sara Haden, Edward Brophy, Keye Luke, Otto Hoffman, and Henry Kolker. Note that IMDb says that Isabel Jewell, who received fifth billing on the posters, had all of her scenes deleted! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this window card has been trimmed and now measures 13" x 16". Condition: fair. The card was found in the back of a picture frame, and it had been trimmed to 13" x 16". The trimming cuts off all of a tagline that was above the title (it read "Dead hands that live... And love... And kill!") and also extends slightly into the image and slightly into the end of the "E" of "LOVE" in the title. In addition, there is significant surface paper loss in the girl's chin and neck, and slightly in her eyes and cheek, and there is surface paper loss in the right edge of Lorre's head and ear. The card is fragile. The bottom right corner is separated and was re-attached with tape from the back and there is a 4" vertical tear near the bottom center of the card. Obviously, this great card is in MUCH lesser condition, but it is also true that a talented restorer can paperback the card and replace the missing areas (including the missing tagline from the top of the card) and after proper restoration of the above defects, the card will look great (and I could imagine seeing the restored card turning up in one of those "big city" auctions and being graded "very good to fine")! Please do not bid on this card unless you have carefully read the above and have carefully studied our super-sized image. Learn More about condition grades
