Important Added Info: Note that in 2017 a man who was in the movie business in the 1960s and 1970s sent us a handful of very unusual movie posters! We had previously auctioned two similar posters, also from the late 1960s and early 1970s. What exactly are they? Each is a movie poster that measures 30" x 40", but it is not printed on paper! Rather, each is printed on a plastic material that is likely acetate. It has full-color printing on both sides. We would have to think that this was intended to be displayed in light boxes, but it likely was only used in major theaters showing major productions. We think it is likely that making these posters stopped because theaters didn't want to pay to have expensive light boxes installed (and it would be many years before double-sided posters used in light boxes became commonplace). Among those acetate posters was one for 2001: A Space Odyssey, which had different coloring than any other 2001 poster, and when we auctioned it in 2017 it sold for $3,961! Now the man has discovered that he has a total of nine more of these posters, including a second example of 2001. We are auctioning eight of the posters in this set of auctions, and the 2001 will be auctioned in our April Major auction. Given that, other than these posters from this one consignor, we were only consigned two of these posters in all of our years of auctioning, it is clear that they are incredibly rare! Also, note that these posters have been stored rolled in tubes for decades, and we don't know how easily it would be (or if it is even possible) to completely flatten them out to where they would lay flat on their own. As you can see in our image, we used magnets on all four borders to get our image. Perhaps a restorer would have a technique to flatten them completely. Please bear this in mind before bidding on any of these eight posters (and know that it will be shipped by itself in a tube; it can be combined with the other acetate posters, but it cannot be combined with regular posters). Condition: good to very good. The poster has some tiny dot stains in portions of the upper edge and a few faint smudges and scuffs in parts of the upper image area. As noted above these do not lay completely flat and we don't know how well this poster will respond to restoration techniques used on paper posters. Overall it has survived in pretty nice condition!
