An Original Vintage Photographic Transparency (measures 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm]) (Learn More) Badtime Stories, the 1972 horror/science fiction comics anthology "prozine" featuring Berni Wrightson scripts and artwork. Each story was drawn in a different medium, including ink wash, tonal pencil drawings, duoshade paper, and screen tones, along with traditional pen-and-ink and brushwork. There is an interesting story behind this publication. Ron Barlow, who was a longtime friend of fellow Baltimore resident Berni Wrightson, approached him in 1970 about creating a publication of his work that would be a tribute to the 1950s E.C. horror comics, entirely drawn and created by Wrightson. Ron agreed to give Wrightson $100 per page and give him the original artwork back, which was far greater payment than comic book companies paid at that time, and no comic book company returned artwork either. Wrightson agreed, but when he finally completed the work in 1972, Ron had run out of money, and he turned to Bruce Hershenson (the same Bruce Hershenson of eMoviePoster.com!) and asked him to put up the money for the printing bill, and that they would go partners on the project. Bruce agreed, and they eventually recouped their cost, but that was all, but they did go on to a partnership in reprinting E.C. comics through their East Coast Comix publishing company. And this is one of the very first prozines, and one of the very best, printed on very high quality paper! It is the very transparency that was made from Wrightson's original cover art, and was used to print the cover of the book! In addition, there is a copy of one of Ron Barlow's very first ads for the book, created right after it was published. Condition: very good.
