Cagney and Lacey, the 1982-1988 female police detectives crime action melodrama television (TV) series starring Tyne Daly (in the title role as Detective Mary Beth Lacey), Sharon Gless (in the title role as Detective Sgt. Christine Cagney), Al Waxman, and Carl Lumbly. Note that in the first six episodes of this series, Lacy was played by Meg Foster. The TV studio worried that she appeared too "masculine", and that there were "lesbian overtones" to the show, and so they replaced her with the more feminine (in their eyes at least!) Sharon Gless, and the show ran for six more years!
