An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Style A Half-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 22" x 28 1/2") (Learn More)

This Island Earth, the 1955 Joseph M. Newman science fiction (sci-fi) thriller ("The supreme excitement of our time!"; "2 1/2 years in the making! ...to bring you sights of Fantastic Amazement never before possible on the motion picture screen!"; "Trapped amid the mysteries of outer space they challenged the unearthly furies of a planet gone mad!"; "In out-of-this-world color by Technicolor"; "The mortal's World is left behind!"; "Earthlings prepared for Outer Space!"; "Kidnapped in midair by giant Space Ship!"; "Pursued by the deadly rays of destruction"; "Crashing the blazing thermal barrier"; "Two mortals trapped in outer space... challenging the unearthly furies of a planet gone mad!"; based on the novel by Raymond F. Jones) starring Jeff Morrow, Faith Domergue, Rex Reason, Lance Fuller, and Russell Johnson. Note that some advertising material refers to the title as "This Island, Earth", while others (including the one-sheet) have "This Island Earth". Note that the wonderful alien creature costumes in this movie were created by a woman named Milicent Patrick, who you probably never heard of, but she deserves to be well remembered. She was a top pianist as a young girl, and she graduated from high school at 14. She went to work for Disney as an artist in the animation department in the late 1940s, and she was the first female hired by Disney in that capacity. In 1954, she designed the classic creature costume used in Creature From the Black Lagoon, but the head of the makeup department on that movie did all he could do to keep her from getting proper credit, and as a result, she left Universal around a year later. It is said that she also created some of the well known costumes in other Universal horror and sci-fi movies preceding this, but there is no clear record as to which ones (but some great monsters of this time, including the ones in this movie, "This Island Earth", seem to be unmistakably be her design). She turned to acting, appearing in a few movies and on TV, but she pretty much vanished in the early 1960s. She passed away in 1998 at the age of 82. She certainly deserves massive credit for her contributions to Creature From the Black Lagoon, this movie, and other great 1950s monster movies, but that may never happen.

Important Added Info: Note that this poster was machine folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time. If being stored flat has caused the folds to diminish, then this poster will be sent rolled in a tube. But if being stored flat has NOT caused the folds to diminish at all, then we will re-fold the poster, and mail it in a flat package. Please be assured that we are solely looking to pack these posters in the safest possible way! If you purchase both unfolded posters and posters that CAN be re-folded, we will rule them all together into a single tube. Also note that this poster was professionally restored by a talented restorer (see below for more on this), which caused the paper to slightly "stretch", and it now measures 22" x 28 1/2" (this often happens with posters that are linenbacked).

Condition: very good. The poster was never folded, and there was a Canadian censor stamp in a circular area at the center of the yellow and pink "explosion area" in the right of the image, but otherwise, the image are of the poster was in nice condition. There were some creases, tears, and small areas of paper loss in the blank borders. Some extremely talented restorer took the poster and added a very thin paper backing to the back of the borders only (which allowed them to mend the tears and tiny areas of paper loss), and they expertly painted over the Canadian censor stamp. THE POSTER NOW LOOKS WONDERFUL, AND I WOULD BET THAT FEW PEOPLE COULD SEE ANY OF THE RESTORATION, EVEN FROM INCHES AWAY (I had to study the poster from both the front and back and look at it under a very bright light, to see the above). Note that the above restoration caused the poster to slightly "stretch", and it now measures 22" x 28 1/2". Overall, the poster looks great, and it basically only has restoration in the area of the censor stamp and the borders, and in now way looks restored, so I would think any collector would be happy to display this great poster on their wall!
