An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures 3 1/4" x 4" [8 x 10 cm]) (Learn More) The Gilded Spider, the 1916 Joseph De Grasse silent family relationship revenge murder rape melodrama (a very complicated story of an Italian man in Italy whose wife is kidnapped by an American, and she kills herself rather than submit to him; the husband is left with a baby daughter, and many years later, he travels to America with his now grown daughter, and she falls in love with an American, and the father wants to stop it, but the man who caused his wife's death shows up, and after a bizarre confrontation, both men die, which allows the daughter to marry the American man she loves) starring Louise Lovely (in a dual role as mother and daughter), Lon Chaney Sr. (as the Italian husband/father), Lule Warrenton, Gilmore Hammond, and Marjorie Ellison. Note that after appearing in dozens of minor film roles in 1913 to 1916, Lon Chaney finally got a few starring roles, and this was one of his first. It would not be for several more years before he started to get lead roles in crime movies, and of course, it was not until the early 1920s that he became a major horror actor! Also note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). This slide is the kind that has two panes of glass that are taped together with black tape around all four edges (front and back), typical of many older glass slides. We have provided a high quality scan of the image, but we have not taken a photo of the slide, because there would really be very little to see! Condition: very good. The theater that used this slide wrote the days the movie was playing in the play dates section at the bottom of the glass. There is a piece of white paper tape over the right blank border that was put there by the maker of the slide. The slide is otherwise in pretty nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
