eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 5j0886 FOR THE SERVICE 1/2sh 1936 Buck Jones, Chief Thunderbird, wonderful indian art, ultra rare! Date Sold 8/18/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) For the Service, the 1936 Buck Jones cowboy western ("Story by Isadore Bernstein") starring Buck Jones (who also produced and directed the movie!), Fred Kohler, Beth Marion, Frank McGlynn Sr., Phillip Trent (billed as "Clifford Jones"), Ben Corbett, Edward Keane, Chief Thunderbird, Slim Whitaker, and Silver the horse. Note that Buck Jones' white horse was named Silver (just like The Lone Ranger's later on!), and Silver made 73 movies with Buck Jones from 1922 until Jones' death in 1942 in the tragic Cocoanut Grove fire. But oddly, Silver was almost never billed on the posters for Buck Jones' movies as so many other famous horses (most especially Tom Mix's Tony) were! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning! In addition, it has wonderful art surrounding the image of Buck Jones of Native American Indians on horseback attacking (see our image). Not only that, but we have only auctioned 6 lobby cards, a glass slide, and one one-sheet for this movie (and that one-sheet sold for $1,725 in 1998!). Note also that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: very good. The poster had a partial extra fold beneath the left of the horizontal fold with some tiny bits of surface paper loss on parts of both folds. Someone apparently gelbacked the poster and performed slight restoration to the folds, but mostly just reinforcing them, and not touching up the surface paper loss (which could be done by any other restorer without backing the poster). The surface paper loss is clearly noticeable but not very distracting and otherwise this extremely rare poster is in pretty nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
